About
Welcome to Ecocentric, the official blog for the sustainable food, water and energy programs of the GRACE Communications Foundation. Many months ago, recognizing the interconnectedness of the issues we work on at GRACE, we decided that rather than continue to house our content and campaigns in separate blogs and websites (Sustainable Table, Eat Well Guide, Daily Table, The Green Fork, H2O Conserve, Network for New Energy Choices), we wanted to help our readers understand how the sustainability of food, water and energy are inextricably related – and all of them critical to our future.
This blog marks the beginning of that endeavor.
Much of our work demonstrates these interconnections. NNEC’s Power Plants Kill Fish campaign explains how antiquated energy production is destroying fish stocks and aquatic ecosystems. Our H2O Conserve water calculator gives users an idea of how many gallons of water go into producing their favorite foods. Our Eat Well Guide was built around the idea that buying locally grown, sustainably produced food can help push forward the reestablishment of local food distribution systems, a critical component not just of supporting family farms but of saving water and reducing our energy consumption, as well.
We urge you to come back often and see how we balance the troubling news of the day with coverage of inspirational work in the field. We invite you to check back frequently, sign up for our RSS feed, follow us on Twitter and Facebook, and to engage with us in the comments section. For those who’ve followed us at The Green Fork, The Daily Table or Network for New Energy Choices, or who’ve read our cross-posts at The Huffington Post or Alternet, we thank you for your continued support. For those who are new to our work, we thank you for joining us.
